My son experienced his first psychotic episode at 19 and is now 25. These years were tumultuous, and hospitalization treatment gave him worsening symptoms and PTSD. I almost lost my son every month since the onset – his delusions and his persecuting voices were so bad he wanted to end it all. After six years of multiple medications and no change, he was finally allowed to go on [a medicine for treatment-resistant schizophrenia] while in the hospital. There has been a remarkable improvement after 2 1/2 months.
